The security of your home and your family should be one of your highest priorities. To know that you have done your best to provide a secure, safe environment is a feeling we should all aspire to. Home security is something that is fundamentally a commonsense mindset. Usually a quick inspection from the outside of your property will reveal whether your particular home is difficult or easy to gain entry to.
If an intruder/burglar is perusing your particular home and views it as something he would see as easy to gain entry to then surely this would be something that should be obvious to anyone doing a reasonable inspection. The first things to look at are your entry points such as front door, back door and any other doors that may be easy to access. Doors in particular that you should be looking at would be ones that may be hidden in alcoves, back verandahs, etc. When you check these doors you should be mindful that you are looking for doors that have proper and secure deadlocks and that you are locking the deadlocks with a key. Many people install proper deadlocks only to not use them.
With windows the same would apply. You need to have window locks on all external windows that lock with a key and make sure that they are locked. Make sure that you trim all trees that are likely to create a hidden area that might give a would-be burglar additional time to try and gain access. Also, if possible, install sensor lighting, particularly on hidden verandas and pergolas, etc.
Security and fresh air can be somewhat of a complicated mix. At Seconline we manufacture a variety of security screen doors and window security screens. The addition of a woven steel mesh security screen to a window or doorway can add a large degree of additional security. Even 7mm diamond screens will give your property an additional measure of security; however, the downside of 7mm diamond screens is the fact that they can allow an intruder to put their hands into the mesh and gain some additional leverage. 316 Marine grade stainless steel woven mesh are designed to imitate fly screen but are significantly stronger and do not allow penetration with anything larger than 0.8mm in diameter for leverage.
When it comes to doors, the addition of three point locking to a hinged security screen door can add significantly more strength to how the door is secured to the door jamb. Three-point locking is no more difficult to operate once installed than a single lock; however, there is additional work to be done for installation.
A good alarm system can be a very good way of minimising intruders in your absence, and good signage of an alarm system will also act as a great visual deterrent. Alarms, however, will not give you any additional security whilst you are living in your home as most alarms will need to be deactivated to avoid any detection of movement. Security window screens and security doors well fitted can give you security while you are living in your home and allow you to enjoy fresh air.
