Tips for installing Hinged Seconline Security/Barrier Door

When it comes to installing your recently purchased Seconline Security/barrier Door then it helps to have all the necessary tools that you will need for your particular installation. Basic tools should include a sharp 10 mm wood chisel, a claw hammer, a pencil, a screwdriver, a drill and a little patience ( both your drill and your screwdriver should preferably be cordless).

After you have received your door remove the packaging and the external black protective tape on the outer door frame. Undo the accessory pack and install the door handles being mindful that the internal snib must be installed in the 12 o’clock position. Place your door into the door jamb that you are intending to install it. With your pencil make a small mark under the top hinge in the down and relax position. Then lift your door up so that it hits the top of the jamb and make another small mark under the top hinge. Given that you have made an 8 mm deduction, then this should give you two marks that are approximately 4 mm part.

Open the door and with your cordless drill, pre-drill a hole in the top of the centre elongated hole whilst holding the hinge against the jamb. (At this point it may be helpful to have someone hold the door for you) Now with your cordless screwdriver or screwdriver place the screw in the hole through the centre hinge hole and screw up to 90%. As you screw the last 10% the door will have to be lifted so as to slide the screw head to the bottom of the elongated hold to create the correct top and bottom gap. Repeat this same process for the bottom hinge, however if you have managed to achieve the correct centring of the door vertically then it should be at a simple matter of putting the screw into the hole.

Close the door and check that you have the door with the correct amount of distance from the top of the door jamb. If this is the case then simply open the door and predrill slightly and screw all the remaining screws into the hinge holes.

The main central tongue of the door has a small trigger above it and at this point you will need to be depressed this to allow the main tongue to go into the locking position. If there is a three-point lock system installed then all three tongues should now be able to be locked by rotating the internal snib. Close the door up to the door jamb and with your pencil simply mark above and below all three tongues and in the case of a single lock just mark above and below the main central tongue while the tongues are in the extended position.

Using the strike plates in the accessory pack is a straight edge place a small pencil mark in on the jamb at the same height as the markings you have placed for the tongues. Centring these marks inside the square holes on the strike plates simply make a mark completely right around the outside of this inner rectangular hole so as to give you a guide to ribbon drill and chisel out the strike holes.

Using the 10 mm chisel and claw hammer cleanout all holes and close the door and test that the lock is locking both internally with the snip and externally with the key. To get a full understanding of just exactly how the door should feel in the lock position then demonstrate several times in the open position. This same locking action and feel should be able to be duplicated in both positions. If this is not the case then there is an obvious restriction within the strike holes.

Using the screws provided and a cordless screwdriver and after you have predrilled, screw the plates to the door jamb. Retest to make sure you have adequate clearance and adjust accordingly.
