Expandoor Installation

Note: If you require a bottom bug seal, it should be installed last.


Steps

  1. Fix hinges and expanding section to door jamb.

  2. Install lock and cylinder.

  3. Slide hinge side into Expandoor section; close and wedge into position. With removable marker pen, mark desired position on the face of the door.

  4. Using a 4 mm drill bit and rivets provided, drill through the back of the door and rivet permanently into marked position.

  5. Mark and cut out lock hole and screw striker into position.

  6. Fit self-adhesive bottom bug seal.


Method

STEP 1: Fix hinges and expanding section to door jamb

Using the rivets supplied fix the hinges to the expanding section; if you do not require the expanding section then drill out the holes and fix the hinges directly to the door.

Hold the expanding section / door in the open position 4-6 mm down from the top of jamb with hinge open and resting approximately 3 mm to 4 all mm off the jamb stop, mark the centre of the elongated hole in the top hinge.

Using a 3 mm drill bit, slightly pre drill a pilot hole on the mark you have just made.

Hold the expanding section / door in place and using a cordless gun, screw through the centre elongated hole into pilot hole and screw up tight. Repeat the same process using the centre hole of the bottom hinge.

Now close the expanding section / door onto the jamb and stand outside. Adjustments up and down can be made now if necessary by loosening the two screws. Once you are happy with the position, pilot drill and fix all remaining screws to the hinges.

STEP 2: Install the lock and cylinder

The cylinder will always be at the bottom of the lock, and the chrome locking snib will always be on the inside. Select the correct handle for your required lock side, they can only go one way for right hand and left hand locking. 

The lock body once installed inside the door will have the trigger positioned above the main locking tongue. 

Before you can install the cylinder you must first depress the trigger to allow the main tongue to fully extend. Once this is completed then insert the cylinder into the lock body and rotate the key so as to lock the door. Once this is completed then insert the cylinder into hole on the face front in the hole provided. Screw tight, however not over tight. Now insert the square centre shaft into the hole provided and using the correct handles fit door furniture to the lock body with screws provided and place caps to hide screw heads.

The Chrome internal snib should always be in the 12 0’clock position when unlocked and when locked the chrome snib should be in the 10 past or 10 to position depending whether it is a left or right hand lock.  

STEP 3: Slide hinge side into Expandoor section

Close and wedge into position. once you have the door in the desired position that being with the top of the door square with the top of the door jamb and even 4 millimetre gap on the locking side then with a removable marker pen, mark desired position on the face of the door.*

*By marking the face of the door it will allow you to select the correct position whilst the door is open if you have no alternate access and you are installing door alone. At this point if you have an alternative access point it is easier to leave the door in this position and go inside using the alternative door and drill and fix rivets in place whilst door is in the closed and correct position. Having an additional person assist you with this is quite desirable and will allow the door to be installed significantly easier.

STEP 4: Fix door into expanding section

Using a 4 mm drill bit and rivets provided, drill through the holes provided and into the back of the door and rivet permanently into marked position.

  

STEP 5: Cut out lock hole and install striker

Hold the door in the open position; push the round trigger above the main locking tongue to extend the locking tongue into the locking position.

Close the door up to the jamb and mark above and below the main locking tongue.

Now open the door and use the striker plate as a guide to trace the two holes and the rectangle tongue hole onto the jamb, using the marks as an upper and lower guide.

IMPORTANT: The round trigger is not designed to go into the main locking tongue hole. It is designed to trigger the main tongue only. It is designed to slide just above the hole and stay in the depressed position on the main striker face.  

Using a 3 mm drill bit, pilot drill the two screw holes. Then ribbon drill the complete outer area of the tongue hole.

Using a 10 mm wood chisel and hammer, extract timber to make the hole needed for the main tongue. Make sure that this hole is cleaned out completely and that their is no tongue restriction within this hole. Now close and test lock (see notes below for testing procedure).

If the chrome snib deadlocks when using the key. then the lock is functioning correctly.Complete the lock test procedure to ensure the door is now locking in both open and closed positions with exactly the same non restricted action and deadlocking the internal snib when locked with the key.

PROCEDURE FOR TESTING YOUR LOCK

Open door and without touching the door handles, depress the small round trigger above the main tongue, this will allow the main tongue to fully extend, this is the correct lock check position for your lock.

Without touching the door handles, use the internal snib to engage the lock. Do this several times to gain the appropriate feel, sound and action of how the lock should correctly engage without restriction.

Close the door and without touching the handles repeat the process. If you do not feel the identical sensation of the lock then you have a restriction.

If you have a restriction you must inspect the lock hole to find and then clear the obstruction, test and retest until the door lock with the same feel both open and closed.

STEP 6: Installing bug seal

Installing the bug seal should be done after the door is installed to ensure a perfect fit. Cut the bug seal to your desired width. Remove the adhesive tape and apply it to the bottom of your door. Rub back and forward to ensure firm adhesion.
